Più grande, il più veloce — comparativi e superlativi
Comparatives and superlatives
It's the ultimate showdown: Adam vs Luna, speed vs snacks. Only comparatives and superlatives can settle this once and for all.
🎯 By the end you can…
- Compare two things with più / meno / come
- Say something is 'the most' with the superlative
- Use irregular comparatives like migliore and peggiore
🎬 Listen to the scene
Tap a line to hear it, then say it back louder than Luna barks.
Who runs faster, you or Luna?
Luna is faster than me, but I'm smarter.
In my opinion she's the nicest dog in the neighbourhood.
That's true, but she's also the greediest!
🔑 Comparatives
| Type | Structure | Example |
|---|---|---|
| more than | più... di | Luna è più veloce di me. |
| less than | meno... di | Sono meno alto di te. |
| as... as | (così)... come / tanto... quanto | È bravo come suo fratello. |
🧩 Superlatives
- Relative: il/la più + adjective + di — il più simpatico della classe
- Absolute: adjective + -issimo/a — bellissimo, velocissima
- Irregulars: buono → migliore/il migliore · cattivo → peggiore/il peggiore
🤯 Wow fact
Buonissimo means 'super good' — Italian just tacks -issimo onto an adjective instead of saying 'very' three times.
🗣️ Say it fast, say it silly
Più veloce, meno pigro, il più simpatico di tutti!
Three times in a row without tripping = you win.

Superlative superstars
Students nominate classmates or family members for silly superlatives: il più goloso, la più veloce, il più addormentato la mattina.
Luna vs. every dog in town
In pairs, write three comparative and two superlative sentences comparing Luna to other imaginary pets.
For teachers & grown-ups
Watch for di vs che after più — di before a noun/pronoun, che before another adjective or verb.
