Lesson 40 of 40 · win the B1 Storyteller badge
Allora, mentre, però — raccontare una storia lunga
Telling a longer story with connectors
The whole adventure — greetings to grammar to gelato to ghost stories — comes together right now. Tell us the whole tale, Luna and all.
🎯 By the end you can…
- Link several past events into one flowing story
- Use allora, mentre, però, infatti and quindi correctly
- Tell a two-minute story combining every tense from this course
🎬 Listen to the scene
Tap a line to hear it, then say it back louder than Luna barks.
Yesterday something incredible happened. I was at the park with Luna reading a book, while she was playing with the ball. So, at one point, Luna saw a cat and ran off! I had to run for a kilometre. However, in the end I found her: in fact she was sleeping peacefully under a tree, so everything ended well.
🔑 Connectors for a longer story
| Italian | English | Use |
|---|---|---|
| allora | so, then | introduces the next event |
| mentre | while | two things happening together |
| però | but, however | contrast |
| infatti | in fact, indeed | confirms what was just said |
| quindi | so, therefore | result or conclusion |
Adam's tip: Mix imperfetto for background (mentre leggevo) with passato prossimo for events (ho dovuto correre) to sound like a real storyteller.
🧩 The whole toolkit, together
- Tenses: presente, passato prossimo, imperfetto, futuro, condizionale
- Pronouns: lo/la/li/le, gli/le, ne, ci
- Now you have everything you need to tell any story from start to finish
🤯 Wow fact
You now have every tool a real Italian storyteller uses: past, future, pronouns and connectors. That's not a beginner anymore — that's B1.
