Il calcio

A football match in the village

Did you know?

Calcio means football, and it is the national sport. Even the smallest village has a pitch and a very loud Sunday.

The word comes from an old Florentine game, calcio storico, still played once a year in Florence in Renaissance costume.

Tortellini are a small folded pasta with meat in the center, and grandmothers here fold them by the hundred. Every kid has tried one raw! (But we don't recommend you do that.) At home we eat them in brodo โ€” in hot broth. Or, if you're my nonno - with lemon and parmigiano. Which is, of course, not acceptable for anyone else!

Adam is from Emilia-Romagna โ€” visit his home region.
