Il cinema

A Roman Holiday scooter ride through Rome

Did you know?

After the war, Italian film-makers took their cameras out into real streets with real people. That style is called neorealismo, and it changed cinema everywhere.

Rome's big studio, Cinecittà, still stands: part film set, part museum, and famous for scooters weaving past ancient ruins.

Federico Fellini, the dreamiest of those film-makers, came from Rimini on the Emilia-Romagna coast and filled his films with his seaside town.
